Impressions Biennial 2015
My etching Caulking has been selected for Impressions Biennial 2015! The exhibition opens on Friday 10th July at The Centre For Creative Arts and Media in Galway and is part of the Galway International Arts Festival program. It promises to be a fantastic evening with work from some of the countries finest printmakers. Come along to the opening if you are in the area.
‘Established in 1988, Impressions is Ireland’s longest running open submission print exhibition. It encourages, promotes and exhibits the best of printmaking in Ireland. This is particularly evident in the growth of printmaking workshops and collectives as well as the continued success of others across Ireland.’
How should we remember those heroic deeds?

Well, if you’ve been to visit Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands, you will surely have heard of the wreck of the Plassey. This rusting hulk, a cargo ship of the Limerick Steamship Company, can still be seen sitting there on the rocks, slowly disintegrating with each passing year.
It happened in March 1960, she was travelling up from Fenit Harbour in Co.Kerry when she was driven off-course in a terrible storm and she struck the rocks to the east of Inis Oírr island. But this is a good news story – a story of courage and determination – because not one sailor perished on that fateful night.
The ship struck the rocks around 5am in the morning but the islanders heard their SOS and they rushed to the scene. Remember, those days there was no cars, no electricity (and no Facebook) on the island but……

Making an Etching

This is a series of images showing the process of making an etching. This was a piece specially commissioned by my good friend John O’Connor for his sailing memoirs More Than A Voyage, published last year. See page 118. I have spent many years sailing with John around the Kerry and Cork coasts.

For the first time ever Ireland will be represented in International Print Day in May. According to their website- “Print Day in May, the first Saturday in May, celebrates the art and community of printmakers. It’s a day to get together in studios across the world to make prints.“
Niall Naessens exhibition at Graphic Studio Gallery
I’m really looking forward to an exhibition by the very talented Niall Naessens opening at the Graphic Studio Gallery in Dublin next Thursday. I had the privilege of learning the art of etching from Niall and it was an honor to be asked to frame this beautiful collection of new work.
